Elevate Retreats: An In-Depth Review of a Plant Medicine Listing near Akumal, Mexico

Elevate Retreats is a plant medicine retreat that exists online almost entirely as a Retreat Guru listing describing a “mission to help people reach their full potential through ancestral medicines and science based technologies.” Since April 2026 the listing gives an address “deep in the jungle of Akumal,” at Rancho San Martin, km 256 of the federal highway in Quintana Roo, about 75 to 90 minutes from Cancún airport. It names no guides, no medicines, no prices and no dates, has no reviews, and links to no website or social media account. No owner, legal entity, screening policy or emergency plan was found. A BookRetreats page under the same name now shows a host offering beachfront hypnotherapy and wellness stays in Tankah Tres without plant medicine; whether it is the same business is unverified. In Mexico, DMT, psilocybin and mescaline are controlled substances. We found no incidents.

💬 What Guests Are Saying

The positive picture. Reviews on the same-name BookRetreats page, from 2023 and 2024, praise calm, private wellness stays, attentive hosts, ocean views, yoga and meditation; none mentions plant medicine.

The negative feedback. One December 2023 review on that page is titled “My first and last retreat” and mentions a promised ocean-view room.

Who is writing the reviews. The BookRetreats host name does not match the page address, and the same review text appears on more than one listing. If you have attended, we encourage you to share your experience through our submission form.

We searched review platforms and English and Spanish-language news for reports involving Elevate Retreats and the people and venues associated with its listings.

🔍 Critical Notes

Anonymous operation. The Retreat Guru listing has an identity-verified badge but lists no guides, and no website, social account, legal entity or tax registration was found.

Address change. Our earlier profile placed Elevate at the “Paleodora” eco center in Chemuyil. That venue, spelled Paledora and now operating as DORA Resort, hosts outside retreats; no source links it to Elevate, and the Retreat Guru listing now gives an Akumal address.

Mexico’s legal picture. Mexico’s General Health Law lists DMT, psilocybin and mescaline among controlled substances, according to its Article 245, and authorities seized ayahuasca shipments at Mexico City airport in 2022. Ceremonial use sits in a disputed legal gray area.

Amenities. The listing claims a spa, sauna, pool, hot tub, gym and restaurant, which no other source confirms.

Corrections to our earlier profile. The current listed address is in Akumal, not Chemuyil, and the drive from Cancún is about 75 to 90 minutes, not 45. No source names ayahuasca. The listing was updated in April 2026, after our earlier profile.

🆘 Screening & Mental Health Risks

No medical questionnaire, contraindication policy, medical staff, integration support or emergency protocol is published. Tulum has a community hospital and a private emergency clinic; the nearest full hospitals are in Playa del Carmen and Cancún, according to the Tulum Times. Anyone offered a plant medicine should ask exactly what it is, who administers it and how interactions with medications are screened. Never stop a psychiatric medication to qualify for a ceremony without your prescriber’s guidance.
