🛡️ About the Accreditation Program
Best Retreats Accreditation is a voluntary program operated by The Retreat Safety Project, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Accreditation fees fund our independent safety research, incident tracking, and consumer-education programs – the same research that powers our public retreat directory.
No retreat is required to pay anything to be listed or reviewed on Best Retreats. Our trust grades, incident reports, and listing content are determined independently and are not influenced by accreditation status.
✅ Accountability Activities Funded by Accreditation

Reputation Monitor
We continuously scan public sources – Reddit, Quora, TripAdvisor, ICEERS reports, Google reviews, news media, court records – for emerging safety concerns at every retreat in our directory. Findings inform our public listings and trust grades. Accredited centers receive copies of our findings on their own operations as part of the accountability process.

Complaint & Incident Resolution
When a guest complaint is submitted against a retreat, we serve as a neutral third party to facilitate resolution and document what happened. Our involvement creates a public record of how each center handles serious concerns, which protects future participants and informs our research. Accredited centers commit to engaging with this process in good faith.

Mediation & Arbitration
Where guest disputes cannot be resolved informally, we maintain a referral list of independent mediators and arbitrators with experience in wellness-industry matters. The Retreat Safety Project does not act as mediator or arbitrator and earns no fees from these referrals. The goal is timely, fair resolution for both participants and centers.

Ad Review & Compliance Checks
Accredited centers’ marketing materials are reviewed against our consumer-protection standards. Claims must align with the realities our research has documented, with particular attention to ethical marketing for vulnerable populations. Material misrepresentations are flagged publicly and can result in suspension of accreditation.

✅ What Accreditation Means
Accreditation indicates that a retreat center has agreed to The Retreat Safety Project’s published operational standards covering safety screening, facilitator vetting, incident disclosure, and complaint handling. Accredited centers commit to a defined process for handling guest complaints, transparent disclosure of safety incidents, and ongoing cooperation with our research team.
Accreditation is not an endorsement of specific retreats or ceremonies. It is a public commitment by the participating center to a set of standards. Trust grades and listing content remain independently determined.
Accreditation is how you prove you’re serious.
It shows you’re open to feedback, willing to fix issues, and committed to safe, honest, respectful experiences – even when the medicine gets messy.
Apply or Inquire
Retreat centers interested in accreditation can contact us to begin the eligibility review. We’ll walk through the standards, review your operation against them, and provide fee information.
