BeMore-Travel: An In-Depth Review for Ayahuasca Retreats in Costa Rica

BeMore-Travel (styled “beMORE-travel”) was a small travel company that sold ayahuasca retreats with temazcal sweat lodges, Spanish practice, beaches and surfing in Costa Rica around 2017 and 2018, using Posada Natura, a separate eco-lodge in Londres, inland from Quepos, as its venue. Its website, bemore-travel.com, is still online, but its last dated content is a May 2018 blog post, and an unclaimed AyaAdvisors listing with an “up to $1,850” price was last changed in 2021. No owner, shaman, legal entity, screening, medical staff or refund policy has ever been published; the only named person is a host called Alsu, mentioned in one 2018 forum post. Its only testimonials are a forum post that links to its site and a “participant” story on its own Medium account. Posada Natura now runs its own ayahuasca retreats under its own name and has no known link to BeMore today. We found no incidents.

• Locations: Retreats were held at Posada Natura, beside the Naranjo River in Londres, about 8 miles from Quepos and Manuel Antonio, Puntarenas, according to Posada Natura’s own site. BeMore never published its own address.

• Costs: “Up to $1,850” on AyaAdvisors, with no length or inclusions, last changed in November 2021. No deposit or refund policy is published. Posada Natura’s own eight-day retreats cost $3,600 to $5,300, but those are a different operator’s prices.
• Overall Assessment: A bundled travel-and-ceremony format at an established venue, offset by no named owners, shamans or legal entity, no screening, medical or refund information, testimonials that are company-published or possibly seeded, and no evidence of activity since 2018. Directory evaluation: D+.

💬 What Guests Are Saying

The positive picture. A single Tripadvisor forum post from about 2018 calls beMORE-travel “the best place in Costa Rica for Ayahuasca,” praising its shamans, its group and “Alsu their host.” Our earlier profile also cited a participant’s account crediting Thai energy massage, temazcal and a month-long vegan diet with helping them prepare; that account sits on the company’s own Medium blog, and those details remain unverified.

The negative feedback. None found.

Who is writing the reviews. No independent reviews exist. The forum post links to BeMore’s website, and the “My Ayahuasca Experience in Costa Rica” story (May 2018) was published on the company’s own Medium account, not by an independent participant. 🚩 Incident Report

We searched review platforms and English, Spanish and Russian-language news for reports involving BeMore-Travel, its host Alsu and Posada Natura.

• Deaths and serious injuries: None found involving BeMore or Posada Natura. In December 2025 La Nación reported the 2024 death of a US woman at a separate iboga center in Paquera, ruled natural causes by investigators and disputed by her family, as La Nación reported; it is unrelated.
• Sexual misconduct: No allegations found.
• Theft and fraud: No complaints found.
• Legal action: No police action or lawsuits found.

Our earlier profile also found no theft, sexual misconduct or criminal incidents, and its March 2026 update reported none. It also cited US advisories about crime affecting tourists in Costa Rica; that remains unverified.

🔍 Critical Notes

Probably inactive. The company’s Medium blog stopped in May 2018, AyaAdvisors was last changed in November 2021, and no retreat dates, reviews or posts appear after that. A Facebook page and an Instagram account carry the name, with no confirmed recent retreat activity.

The venue is a separate business. Posada Natura is family-owned and run by Eco Era, a US nonprofit founded in 1991, and hosts outside groups, according to its FAQ. It now sells its own eight-day ayahuasca retreats with three ceremonies, $3,600 to $5,300, and holds a 4.9 Tripadvisor rating from 30 reviews. Details our earlier profile attributed to BeMore, such as riverside cabins, Thai massage, spa amenities and an airport shuttle, describe the venue rather than BeMore.

Who runs it. No owner, director or shaman is named anywhere. A California company named BeMore Travel LLC was registered around 2018, but nothing confirms it is the same business. Our earlier profile said the host, Alsu, was born and raised in Russia; we found no source for that.

Costa Rica’s rules. In January 2025 Costa Rica’s Ministry of Health warned against advertising or using ayahuasca therapeutically, said DMT is a controlled substance and called such practices “unauthorized and potentially dangerous,” as the Tico Times reported. No raids on retreats were reported.

Corrections to our earlier profile. A price (“up to $1,850”) was published, and the company has a website, bemore-travel.com. The “participant” testimonial is company-published. Its listing also advertised beaches and surfing lessons. We found no source for the “transformational experience company” wording, small-group ceremonies, Thai energy massage as part of BeMore’s program, free private-bus transport from San José, a month-long vegan diet, Crunchbase locations in Costa Rica and Brazil, the “luxurious, top amenities” description or the claim that it targets people for whom conventional approaches fall short; those details remain unverified.

🆘 Screening & Mental Health Risks

No medical questionnaire, contraindication list, medical staff, integration plan or emergency protocol has been published by BeMore. The nearest hospital to Londres is in Quepos. ICEERS notes that ayahuasca’s MAOI component makes it dangerous with SSRIs and other serotonergic drugs and that it is contraindicated for people prone to psychosis. Never stop a psychiatric medication to qualify for a ceremony without your prescriber’s guidance.

🧪 Brew Substance

BeMore never described its brew, who prepared it or where it came from. Ayahuasca usually combines the Banisteriopsis caapi vine with chacruna leaves, which supply the DMT, as Erowid explains. Temazcal is the only other practice it listed.

📍 Location, Setting & Style

• Setting: Rainforest beside the Naranjo River in Londres, inland from Quepos, about three and a half hours by road from San José.
• Rooms: Posada Natura’s riverfront cabins, by the venue’s own description.
• Style: A Western-run travel package combining ceremonies with sightseeing, beaches and language practice.

Practical guidance: BeMore published no transport or booking details. Meals were advertised as organic and vegan.

Should You Book?

Not without confirming that BeMore still operates. Ask who owns the company, who leads the ceremonies and with what training, how health conditions are screened, what medical cover exists and what the refund terms are, and get the answers in writing. BeMore’s blog posts from December 2017 to May 2018 covered ayahuasca in Costa Rica, Posada Natura and spiritual travel in India, suggesting it also sold India trips. The only named person is Alsu, described as “their host.” Its founding story, ownership and operating history remain unclear. We did not independently verify anyone’s training.
