Amazonia Moyano Ayahuasca Healing Center: An In-Depth Review for Retreats near Tingo María, Peru

Amazonia Moyano Ayahuasca Healing Center is a small ayahuasca and master plant dieta center that says it sits about 15 minutes outside Tingo María, in Peru’s Huánuco region, where the Andes meet the Amazon. Its founder and director, according to its Retreat Guru listing, is Maestro Rider Arevalo, who describes Shipibo roots through his grandmother and says he founded the center in 2019. “Moyano” is a brand name, not a family name. It offers 11- to 12-day programs with six to eight ceremonies and personalized dietas for up to 12 guests, at $150 a day all-inclusive (about $1,800 for 12 days), or a reduced $120 a day without a dieta, by the listing’s wording. The facilities are well described: 16 private rooms, four tambos for dieters and a maloca. Almost everything else is unverified. There are no independent reviews anywhere, the only ratings are two 2019 reviews on a US business directory, the center has gone through at least three brands and websites, the latest dated evidence of retreats is from 2022, and an earlier version of the center’s site claimed ayahuasca treats cancer and erectile dysfunction. We found no deaths, injuries, misconduct or legal action. Our earlier profile needs correcting on its price, its lead healer and several screening claims for which we found no source.

• Locations: “About 15 minutes outside Tingo María,” in mountain jungle with creeks and waterfalls, according to the center’s website and Retreat Guru program page. The street address on Retreat Guru, Av. Iquitos 1599 in Rupa Rupa, is inside Tingo María town and is probably an office or mailing address. No GPS location is published.
• Approach: Ayahuasca ceremonies led by Maestro Rider Arevalo in a Shipibo-style practice, with personalized master plant dietas, flower baths, steam baths and herbal teas, and one-on-one and group meetings with the healers. San Pedro and Shipibo massage are available at extra cost.
• Suitable For: Experienced guests who want a longer dieta-focused stay with private rooms and are prepared to verify the center themselves before paying. Less suited to first-timers who want independent reviews, medical support or a well-documented track record.
• Costs: “$150 USD per day all-inclusive” with a plant dieta, or what Retreat Guru calls “a price reduction of $120 USD per day” without one, most likely meaning $120 a day; a standard 12-day stay is about $1,800. The center’s own site lists 11-day dates but no prices, and offers “reduced pricing” for flexible stays. Transport from Huánuco or Pucallpa carries a “small additional fee,” free for stays of two weeks or more. Our earlier profile’s $1,600 has no current source.
• Overall Assessment: A center with good private accommodation and a traditional dieta format, offset by no independent reviews, an unverified identity and lineage, conflicting program details across three brands, past unsupported cure claims, no published medical staff or emergency plan, and no dated evidence of recent retreats. 💬 What Guests Are Saying

Here is how Amazonia Moyano rates across review platforms in October 2026:

The positive picture. The two 2019 directory reviews praise the scenery, cleanliness, friendly staff, local food and yoga, and one mentions treatment for rheumatism. The testimonial on the center’s site praises Rider’s sensitivity and character.

The negative feedback. None found, because there are almost no reviews to read.

Who is writing the reviews. The only ratings come from an “Owner Verified” US directory listing that gives a Florida address for a Peruvian jungle center, which makes them hard to treat as independent. The same guest testimonial, by first name and country, appears on both the 2022 site and the current one. The earlier site, dmt.vision, ran search-engine articles ranking competitors under a “Best Ayahuasca Retreat Peru” menu, and a Russian company directory repeats the center’s description of itself as the “best ayahuasca retreat in Peru.” Our earlier profile said there were no independent reviews; that is still true. 🚩 Incident Report

We searched review platforms, Peruvian and English-language news, and legal sources, in Spanish and English, for reports involving Amazonia Moyano, its earlier brand names, Rider Arevalo and ayahuasca in Tingo María.

• Deaths and serious injuries: None found. A June 2025 death of an American tourist after an ayahuasca ceremony in Loreto, reported by Infobae, happened at an unrelated lodge hundreds of kilometers away.
• Sexual misconduct: No allegations found.
• Theft and crime: No reports found.
• Legal action: None found. No ayahuasca-related enforcement was found in Huánuco or Tingo María.

Given the center’s very small online footprint, the absence of reports is limited evidence. If you have experienced or witnessed an incident at Amazonia Moyano, please report it confidentially.

🔍 Critical Notes

Is it operating? The Retreat Guru listing is live with “Open Dates” but no dated retreats, and the current website lists eight retreat dates from April to September with no year; if they refer to 2026, all have passed. The latest dated evidence we found is from 2022: photos uploaded to Retreat Guru in September 2022 and retreats announced for April and June 2022 on the earlier site, which now carries the banner “The project is closed.” The domain cited on Retreat Guru, amazoniamoyano.com, is no longer online. Confirm that a retreat is actually running, with named healers, before you send money.

Three brands, conflicting details. The center has operated as “Centre of Ancestral Amazonian Medicine «Moyano»” (dmt.vision), as Amazonia Moyano (amazoniamoyano.com, now offline) and as moyanocentro.com. Retreat Guru lists 12 days and eight ceremonies; the current site lists 11 days and six to seven; the 2022 site described a seven-day program with four. The 2022 site named a second healer, Maestro Pablo, as a “representative of the traditional Shipibo tribe,” and our earlier profile called Pablo the center’s “primary healer”; no current source names him. A US business directory listing for the earlier brand says it was “opened by Guillermo Arevalo”; no other source names that person here, and we found nothing linking the center to the well-known Shipibo healer of the same name.

Who is running it? No Peruvian tax registration (RUC) or other legal entity was found. Bookings run through a US phone number with an Alaska area code and a named US contact, the center offers English and Russian translation, and a Russian-language directory lists it, all of which suggests foreign-run marketing around a Peruvian healer. Ask who you are paying and where the money goes.

Past cure claims. The 2022 site claimed ayahuasca treats “cancer, rheumatism, erectile dysfunction,” depression, panic attacks, amnesia and addictions, with no evidence. These claims do not appear on the current Retreat Guru page, but they are a warning sign about how the center has marketed itself.

The legal position. In 2008 Peru’s National Institute of Culture declared the traditional knowledge and uses of ayahuasca part of the nation’s cultural heritage, while contrasting them with “decontextualized, consumerist” commercial uses, as Andina reported. ICEERS describes ayahuasca as legal in Peru, with no licensing system for retreat centers, while DMT itself is internationally controlled. See our country-by-country legal guide.

Corrections to our earlier profile. The price is $150 a day all-inclusive (about $1,800 for 12 days), not $1,600. The center does list “integration support before and after your stay,” which our earlier profile said was missing. There is no 12-day minimum: Retreat Guru prices by the day and the site offers flexible stays. Pickup fees are described only as a “small additional fee,” not the $50 and $70 our earlier profile gave. We found no current source for several earlier claims, which remain unverified: that the center runs an Ayahuasca Research Program monitoring guests’ well-being; that guests must disclose all medications from the past year; that medications must be stopped two to eight weeks before, or 48 hours for over-the-counter drugs; that its healers have supported thousands of guests; that most guests return year after year; and that it is one of only a few Shipibo-owned centers in Peru.

🆘 Screening & Mental Health Risks

The current booking form asks only about prior ayahuasca experience and points to a contraindications page on the center’s site. Retreat Guru publishes no medical questionnaire, and says that on the first night Rider “will look into a person’s mind, spirit, and body,” a spiritual assessment rather than medical screening. The 2022 site listed strict exclusions: pregnancy, cardiac surgery or a pacemaker, past hypertension, heart attack or stroke, recent gastrointestinal surgery, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, and it called antidepressants “dangerous” and required guests to stop pharmaceuticals. It also claimed “we have medical staff,” without names or credentials; no current source mentions medical staff, and no emergency protocol is published. Tingo María has a regional hospital, and if the 15-minute claim holds it should be within about half an hour. ICEERS notes that ayahuasca’s MAOI component makes combinations with SSRIs and other serotonergic medications contraindicated, and that ayahuasca is contraindicated for people prone to psychosis. Erowid warns of extreme, possibly fatal reactions with some prescription drugs. Ask for the current contraindication list and emergency plan in writing. Never stop a psychiatric medication to qualify for a retreat without your prescriber’s guidance.

🧪 Brew Substance

The center says its ayahuasca is brewed on site from the traditional vine and does not publish the full recipe. Traditional ayahuasca combines the Banisteriopsis caapi vine with a DMT-containing leaf such as chacruna, as Erowid explains. Each 12-day program includes eight ceremonies by Retreat Guru’s count, with a personalized master plant dieta; one gallery photo is labeled piñón colorado, a plant used in dietas. Mapacho is used in ceremonies. San Pedro is available on request at extra cost, and the 2022 site also offered kambo before the dieta, rapé, nasal cleansing and herbal eye drops. Ask exactly what is in each cup, which plants your dieta will use and how doses are set.

📍 Location, Setting & Style

• Setting: Jungle hills at about 650 meters around Tingo María, milder than the lowland Amazon, with highs near 30°C, evenings around 20°C and heavy rain, wettest from December to January.
• Rooms: Four houses with four private single rooms each, plus four tambos for experienced dieters. Shared bathrooms and showers, flush toilets, mosquito nets, Wi-Fi and electricity around the clock, and laundry.
• Style: Traditional dieta practice: ceremonies, plant baths and isolation for dieters, with simple dieta meals of eggs, chicken, river fish, plantain, yuca, quinoa and fruit, and fruit and tea available all day.

Practical guidance: Fly from Lima to Huánuco or Pucallpa, about an hour each. The center’s driver collects guests; the road takes about 2.5 to 3 hours from Huánuco or 4 to 6 hours from Pucallpa. Tingo María also has a small airport with very limited service.

Should You Book?

Amazonia Moyano may suit you if you want a long, traditional dieta with a private room and are comfortable doing your own verification. The trade-offs: no independent reviews, no proof of recent retreats, conflicting details across three brands, healers whose identity and lineage are unconfirmed, past cure claims, and no medical staff or emergency plan on record. If you go, confirm the dates, the healers’ full names, the price and refund terms, the contraindications and the emergency plan in writing, ask for references from recent guests, and read our guide to verifying retreat facilitators.

The Team & Story

According to the center’s Retreat Guru teacher page, Maestro Rider Arevalo, who uses the Shipibo names Sanken and Barri, began dieting at age 5 with his grandmother, Maria Arevalo, led ceremonies on his own by 14, and founded and built the center in 2019. It describes “very deep roots in Shipibo curanderismo” but names no community. Shipibo communities are reported in the Tingo María area, so the claim is plausible, but we found no independent confirmation. Retreat Guru says the center has two curanderos and two facilitators, unnamed. The 2022 site also named Maestro Pablo, who no longer appears. No legal entity is published. We did not independently verify anyone’s credentials.

Before you go: Ask for the contraindication list and health questionnaire, disclose every medication and condition, and talk with your own doctor well before the retreat. Ask which dieta restrictions apply before, during and after your stay.
