🔍 Critical Notes
Dancing Dragons retreat center, located in the Yungilla valley outside of Cuenca, Ecuador. Our retreat space includes the main house, which is situated on top of a mountain bluff, has a 360 degree view of the Andes mountains. There is a separate building with a treatment/massage room and art workshop, and also a pool.
In 2018 a maloka (ceremonial space) was built on the property, designed with attention to sacred geometry and geomancy, as well as using materials like copper and Orgonite.
Reviews
Steve’s got helpers, one fella kept watch when I got shaky, felt like he cared without makin a fuss. Food was plain, quinoa and greens every day, slept in a room with creaky beds and dogs yappin outside, didn’t bother me non. I was too caught up in it. Talked to this woman who said she quit her old vices after comin here, and I’m sittin there feelin it too, like I’m leavin my restlessness behind. Back on the road now, but it’s lighte, this place dug into me good
Steve eagle sewell runs it, this chill legend who’s done like 500 trips himself, and you feel that vibe right off. Did the 14-day gig, rollin up to eagle’s nest—countryside’s lush, all green hills and peace. First ceremony I’m sittin there with the cactus juice, heart poundin, then bam—colors poppin off plants, feelin the earth breathin, like I’m huggin the planet. Steve’s got this crew—Tiago and Jessica were there—keepin it safe, no judgy bs, just love. One night this gal Maria from testimonials, she’s real, told me she quit her bank job after this, and I’m thinkin yeah I’m droppin my old baggage too. Food’s simple, slept in a shared spot, but man I’m back buskin tunes with soul now. 5 stars, bloody unreal trip!
The setting is verdant, I’ll grant, but the journey there was deplorable—roads unfit for civilized travel. Steve Eagle Sewell, with his reputed 500 San Pedro excursions, led competently, yet four ceremonies yielded scant revelation—initial nausea, a vague vision of my ex’s tenure rejection, mild relief at best. Mariya offered perfunctory support amidst an overly loquacious group—one man’s endless prattle of lost ambition tested my patience. Quinoa fare was pedestrian, the dormitory insufferable. Three stars: marginal benefit, eclipsed by disarray and discomfort.
It changed my life in ways I didn’t expect. My name’s Margaret, and after 30 years teaching I retired feeling empty—lost my husband to cancer, kids moved out, you know how it goes. Found this place online, booked the 21-day retreat near Cuenca at Eagle’s Nest, and oh my goodness, what a gift. Steve Eagle Sewell, the facilitator, he’s this gentle soul who’s been at it forever—over 3,000 people guided, they say. The ceremonies were something else, San Pedro hittin soft but deep—first one I saw my Tom smilin at me, tears just poured out, and by the end I felt him say it’s okay to live again. The team, like Mariya, held space so kind, no rushin you through it. We’d sit in the garden, mountains all round, eatin basic veggie meals, sleepin simple. One guy shared how he beat depression here, and I felt that too.
Place is tight, green hills, fancy as hell, Steve’s the shaman, 20 years deep, knows his game, real steady.
