🔍 Critical Notes

Rite of Passage Mexico’s ayahuasca and ibogaine retreat in Rosarito Beach offers a transformative experience, praised on healingmaps.com for its life-saving impact and supportive staff, with a coastal setting enhancing recovery. The ROPmex protocol’s medical oversight adds safety, but dated reviews and no 2025 dates on their site raise concerns about current operations. Ayahuasca’s legal status in Mexico is ambiguous despite cultural use, suggesting caution—verify retreat availability, facilitator credentials, and safety protocols directly before booking.

Ayahuasca

Also, known as “Yagé”, is a brew most commonly used among the indigenous peoples of the Peruvian Amazonia’s. The tea is prepared by an ayahuasquero, who is typically trained in the traditional ways of preparation in a ceremony of itself. Sections of Banisteriopsis caapi vine “Vine Of The Soul” or “Vine With A Soul” are macerated and boiled with leaves from Psychotria viridis (chacruna). This powerful brew is created in the deep forests of the Peruvian jungle, only by lineage trained shamans as a respect to the vine itself. In our alternative care center the Ayahuasca treatment is given to you in a ceremonial setting in which you will experience a “mental and emotional awakening”. It is pertinent that when taking Ayahuasca, it be taken only in presence of a spiritual guide, which accompanies you during your spiritual journey usually out in the jungle. We however prioritize your wellbeing and assure the safest outcome within our facilities in presence of licensed-certified medical personnel. At your arrival, we perform an extensive medical check and follow-ups during stay:

Urine Drug Test (done periodically)
Licensed Medical Attending Onsite (full medical history, physical exam upon admission and progress follow up)
24 hour Licensed-Certified Nursing Care (Vital Signs Surveillance, IV catheter installation, Hand to hand accompanied therapies).

It is of our knowledge that in order to take the Ayahuasca treatment safely, it is of extreme importance to first go through a deep cleanse and detoxification from the chemical products in our daily foods and environment as well as most cases the complete removal of medical products that may adversely react with ayahuasca. Patients must also understand how fatal it can be to consume drugs or medications prior to the ayahuasca treatment, specially if hiding it from the providers. For safety and effectiveness we will provide you with a preparation protocol prior to your ayahuasca treatment. It is of most importance to follow the guideline for your safety and wellbeing, the percentage of possible risks is very low if done correctly, but can easily be avoided when instructions are followed. The Ayahuasca treatment consists of a 3 to 6 hours psychedelic experience in which patients learn to accept, release, overcome and grow from whatever their personal intentions are. The experience is not “Fun”, it is an experience of surrendering to the “grandmothers” teachings, about ourselves and often it can be hard, but after enduring the journey within, every single patient comes out with a profound sense of gratitude. You will be provided with a strict diet in accordance to Ayahuasca treatment restrictions, along with a day to day schedule of activities to prepare for each session during your stay. The total of ayahuasca treatments, will depend on the severity of each individual case and this is usually discussed before any commitment is made. With the  Ayahuasca treatment you will be able to overcome depressive neurological patterns, serotonin and endorphin instability, and an overall awakening to perceive life in a new and enlighten manner.
In case of using anti-depressive medication or overgoing a chemical dependency that induces your mental and emotional illness, please continue to our Ibogaine treatment for the best possible result. You must be clean and sober to have an Ayahuasca treatment for your own safety and overall outcome of your experience.

Ayahuasca ceremony

The ayahuasca ceremony is done in a group or individually, depending how many people arrived the same day you did. The ceremony is guided through music played on speaker, live music and use of a variety of instruments. The guides take the medicine with you, for guidance and connection with the “grandmother”, as traditional done for better guidance. INTENTION and SURRENDER are key, in the process of working with ayahuasca.

I arrived at Rite Of Passage Mexico at one of the lowest points in my life. Years of personal struggles had left me feeling lost and overwhelmed, but from the moment I stepped onto the retreat grounds, I sensed that something profound was about to happen. The center is nestled in a beautiful natural setting that immediately grounds you—vivid, expansive landscapes that seem to whisper ancient secrets of healing.

The ceremonies were nothing short of life-changing. I experienced an emotional flood that dismantled layers of pain I’d carried for too long. The facilitators here are exceptional—skilled, compassionate, and intuitive. They guided us with a balanced mix of deep tradition and modern understanding. One evening, during a particularly intense session, I felt a surge of clarity that allowed me to see my future with renewed hope. The group integration circles were intimate and honest, providing a safe space to share raw stories and gain practical tools for ongoing healing.

I left Rite Of Passage Mexico with a heart that felt lighter, a mind cleared of old burdens, and a newfound commitment to living authentically. This retreat isn’t just about escaping the daily grind—it’s about completely transforming your inner world.

The ceremonies were raw, intense, and utterly unfiltered. I had moments where I felt my entire past unravel before my eyes—every mistake, every joy, every regret was laid out in vivid clarity. The team of facilitators managed the process with remarkable honesty and warmth. Their guidance during the ceremonies helped me navigate the emotional turbulence with a sense of purpose and strength. What struck me most was the integration work afterward: small group circles where we exchanged vulnerable truths and supported one another. It was like finding a long-lost family in the midst of healing.

I left with insights that reshaped my life and the confidence to move forward with renewed hope. If you’re ready to face your inner truth head-on, this retreat offers a transformative journey that you won’t soon forget.

My time at Rite Of Passage Mexico was largely transformative—there were moments when the healing was so intense it felt like a reset for my entire being. The retreat’s natural setting is breathtaking; a mix of lush landscapes and a soothing, ambient energy that draws you in. The ceremonies helped me confront deep-seated emotions, and I experienced several breakthroughs that I hadn’t achieved through traditional therapy.

However, there were areas that could use some fine-tuning. While the ceremonial work was powerful, I felt the integration sessions sometimes lacked the individualized attention I needed to fully process my intense experiences. A few extra one-on-one follow-ups or more structured integration exercises would have helped cement the insights I gained. Additionally, I found that the communal meals, though healthy and fresh, became a bit monotonous over the retreat’s duration.

Overall, the healing potential is enormous here. If you’re ready for a deep inner journey and can handle a few organizational hiccups, Rite Of Passage Mexico is a solid choice—but it could benefit from more personalized integration support.

I came to Rite Of Passage Mexico seeking a radical transformation after years of feeling emotionally stagnant. The retreat’s natural environment is nothing short of spectacular—lush, vibrant, and imbued with an energy that immediately shifts your perspective. The ceremonies were raw and impactful, bringing forth emotions and insights that challenged me to rethink my entire approach to life.

The facilitators did a commendable job creating a container for such deep work. However, I did encounter a few quirks along the way. There were moments when I felt that the transition between ceremonies and integration sessions was a bit abrupt, leaving me unprepared to fully process the intensity of the experiences. Additionally, while the communal spaces exude a rugged charm, some aspects of the facility felt under-maintained after several days, detracting from the overall comfort.

Despite these minor issues, I walked away with invaluable insights and a renewed sense of purpose. If you’re willing to embrace an experience that is as challenging as it is healing, you’ll find that the transformative power here far outweighs the occasional rough patches.

In the end, I walked away with some valuable insights, but also with a lingering sense that the retreat could be more consistent in its delivery of personalized support. If you’re willing to embrace an intense experience with the possibility of some uneven moments, this might still be worth exploring—but be prepared for a ride that’s as unpredictable as it is powerful.
