💬 Guests Say

  • Authentic Healing: Guests on marosahealingcenter.com call ceremonies “profound,” praising Maestra Angela’s icaros for guiding them through deep spiritual insights.
  • Jungle Connection: Many on retreat.guru describe the Amazon setting as “beautiful,” with white sand and a lagoon enhancing their experience.
  • Loving Family Vibe: Reviews on Facebook’s “Ayahuasca Experiences” group highlight the Shipibo family’s warmth, with one guest feeling “cared for like family.”

🚩 Incident Report

After an exhaustive search across the web—Reddit (r/Ayahuasca, r/Psychonaut, r/ayahuascaretreats), Quora, Facebook groups (“Psychedelic Healing,” “Ayahuasca Experiences”), news sites, retreat forums, ICEERS reports, and official records—serious allegations of sexual misconduct and safety concerns tied to Marosa Healing Center were found, though no verified incidents of theft or crime were documented.
  • Theft: No reports of stolen items or valuables in public posts, forums, ICEERS data, or news.
  • Sexual Misconduct: A Reddit post (r/Ayahuasca, September 2023) detailed an incident where a shaman named Jorge, hired by Marosa, allegedly touched a guest inappropriately during a ceremony and later touched the reviewer’s pelvic bone in her tambo, claiming to heal her stomach. The reviewer reported this to facilitator Jordan, but no further action was confirmed. While broader ayahuasca retreat risks exist, this Marosa-specific case raises concerns.
  • Crime: No police reports, arrests, or violent incidents linked to Marosa appeared in Google News, Peruvian media, retreat discussions, or ICEERS findings.
Additionally, a Reddit post (r/ayahuascaretreats, December 2022) reported a dangerous road to the retreat, posing risks for emergency medical access, and a 2023 Reddit comment noted a guest being seriously injured during a stay, with a ceremony halted due to a broken maloka roof during a rainstorm. These accounts, while not formally verified, indicate potential safety lapses that could lead to harm. Marosa Healing Center’s online reputation is heavily mixed due to these reports, though general ayahuasca risks (e.g., psychological distress, unregulated settings) are also noted in the community at large, including ICEERS research on retreat safety. If other incidents occurred, they’re not publicly reported or accessible online.

🔍 Critical Notes

The analysis draws from marosahealingcenter.com, bestretreats.co, retreat.guru, Reddit, and ICEERS. Located 25 minutes from Iquitos, Peru, on a lagoon with white sand, Marosa Healing Center offers 7- to 28-day ayahuasca retreats (4 ceremonies per week) and master plant dietas, with pricing at $1,000-$4,000, per bestretreats.co. Founded in late 2019 by Maestra Angela Sanchez Rios (20+ years of experience) and Tony Inga, the Shipibo family-run center limits groups to 14, focusing on traditional practices, per marosahealingcenter.com. Amenities are basic—no luxury, no internet, strict diets (no salt, spices, or sugar). Reddit posts highlight issues: sexual misconduct by a shaman (2023), unsafe road conditions, a guest injury, and operational neglect (e.g., broken maloka roof).

Retreats start every Sunday and Wednesday. You may stay for as many weeks/months as you would like. If you are curious about ayahuasca and/or master plant diets, a week (ayahuasca only) and 11 days (ayahuasca and diet) will introduce you to the beauty of Amazonian plant medicine. Our center is more of a revolving door with patients staying for different lengths of time for their specific issues rather than organized large groups. Since plant diets require deep introspection and time spent with yourself, groupings of people don’t play as big of a role here at our center.

  • Master plant diets are given to those staying for 11 days or longer

  • Phone interview must be conducted before final booking

  • Guests are encouraged to arrive in Iquitos the night before their retreat starts

Ceremonies are at 7:30 pm every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Breakfast (8:00 am) and lunch (12:00 pm) are served everyday.

Dinner is served at 6:00 pm every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Plant diets and other Medicines/therapies are typically served at 4:00 pm when needed.

Food

When you are dieting a plant(s) or tree(s), you are making a commitment to opening yourself to the intelligence that lies beyond your normal perception of reality. Thus, it is important to keep the body in a neutral state. We provide nourishing meals three times a day and twice a day when ceremonies are taking place. The food provided is nutritious. However, we abstain from using any salt, spices, fats, oils, dairy, and sugar. We provide guests with chicken, fish, eggs, rice, potatoes, vegetables, legumes, oatmeal, some fruits and plantains. If you are interested in dieting with the traditional dry Shipibo diet, it will be more difficult but provide a deeper connection to your plant(s) that can be made available. If you have dietary restrictions or want to eat the dry Shipibo diet, please inform Tony so he can relay that information to the kitchen.
