WHO IS MAHA DEVI

Maha Devi means “Great Goddess,” the Mother who cares for all beings in existence. The name was chosen when Yasha dreamed of creating a sacred space, a place of healing and transformation, dedicated to the Goddess Dakshina Kali on the outskirts of Kathmandu, Nepal. This space is meant to honor her and connect people to the power of the medicine.

The medicine carries a gentle yet powerful feminine energy. Many who experience it say it feels like a deep, primal force that clears negativity and opens their minds and hearts, helping them feel closer to nature and themselves.

People who honor the Great Goddess often have a deep respect for nature and its wisdom. In the Amazon, she is called Pachamama, the protective spirit of the Earth. In Christianity, her loving essence is seen in Mary, the mother of Christ.

In Iran, she is known as Anahita, the goddess of water and fertility. In Egypt, she is reflected in Isis, the protector and nurturer. In Buddhism, she is Vasundharā, the goddess of the Earth and abundance. She has no single name or form, she is infinite and appears in countless ways.

May the blessings of our Mother help us find the truth in our hearts and guide us to live in harmony with nature, ourselves, and each other.

The team at Maha Devi is incredibly welcoming, making sure you feel supported and prepared way before even stepping into the medicine. They’re not overbearing, but they’re present when it matters—helping you set clear intentions and creating a space where you can do the deep work without distractions.

As for the experience itself, it’s hard to put into words. Ayahuasca is deeply personal, and no two journeys are the same. But one thing is certain—if you’re looking for a powerful experience with a potent brew, this is the place. The ceremonies here aren’t watered down for comfort. The medicine tea is strong, and the taitas know exactly what they’re doing.

What sets Maha Devi apart is the balance between modern safety and true indigenous wisdom. Their ayahuasca is lab-tested, ensuring purity, while the ceremonies are rooted in authentic tradition. You’re not just drinking the brew—you’re stepping into something sacred, something that’s been carried forward for generations.

If you’re ready for a real experience—one that challenges you, breaks you open, and puts you back together—Maha Devi will totally do it

This is a well-run retreat with a solid experience and experienced facilitators, but it won’t be for everyone. The jungle/forest setting is beautiful but extremely rural —don’t expect comfort or convenience. The humidity is relentless. If you’re not used to this kind of environment, it can add an extra layer of challenge to an already intense experience.

The medicine itself is cool, which is what I was looking for, but the ceremonies felt a bit rigid at times. There wasn’t much one-on-one guidance unless you actively sought it out. If you’re someone who needs a lot of support during difficult experiences, you might find this a little hands-off.

That said, this is definitely an authentic experience, but it’s not the most accessible or welcoming for newcomers. If you’re experienced with ayahuasca and prefer a no-frills, traditional setting, this could be a good fit. Otherwise, you might want to consider whether you’re ready for something like this.

I had a beautiful experience at Maha Devi. The setting is peaceful, deep in nature, and the maloka where ceremonies are held feels like a sacred space. Ania and the facilitators clearly put their hearts into this retreat, and I felt well-supported throughout the process.

The ayahuasca ceremonies were powerful, though I will say the medicine was a bit unpredictable—one night was incredibly strong, another was much lighter. That’s not necessarily a negative, just something to be aware of. The integration support was helpful, but I wished for a bit more one-on-one guidance afterward.

The accommodations were comfortable, though more rustic than I expected. If you’re looking for luxury, this isn’t the place, but if you’re open to simplicity and a deep connection with nature, it’s perfect. The food was nourishing and aligned with the dieta, though a bit repetitive by the end of the week.

Overall, a transformative experience, but a few small areas for improvement. Would definitely recommend to those seeking a genuine, heart-centered retreat.

First off, if you’re coming here expecting a trippy, mind-blowing DMT experience, this probably isn’t for you. The brew is strong, but not in a way that compares to LSD or mushrooms—it works on a different level. And yeah, the purging is real. I spent a good part of the first night alternating between my bucket and the jungle toilet (which, by the way, is literally just a wooden outhouse with a hole). It’s rough, but that’s part of the process.

The facilities are straight up as basic as it gets but nice and comfortable. The humidity is relentless, everything feels damp, and if you’re not used to sleeping in the jungle, the sounds alone will keep you up. But somehow, it works. The simplicity forces you to strip away all the noise and just be with yourself.

Ania and Yasha have created something raw and real here. They’re not gurus, they’re not trying to sell you some grand spiritual awakening—they just hold the space. Iff you’re serious about the work, they’ll support you in the ways that matter.

I left feeling lighter, clearer, and strangely grateful for the discomfort. Would I recommend it? Yes—but only if you’re ready. If you’re expecting a cozy retreat with creature comforts, look elsewhere. But if you want the raw thing you got it.
