🔍 Critical Notes
Taita Hector Ortiz
Taita Hector Alirio Ortiz Jimenez was born in the Colombian city of Ibague, Tolima. As a musician, singer, and songwriter, he has produced 2 records of healing shamanic spiritual music of praise.
He started his ancestral Amazonian cultural studies related to Ayahuasca-Yage in 2002 by becoming a disciple of Taita Ruber Garreta, of the Inga community, in the lower Putumayo region, humid and tropical zone in the Colombian Amazon. His formation continued under the spiritual guidance of Taita Guillermo Mavisoy Mutumbajoy and Taita Jose Bernardo Chindoy Chindoy, of the Kamentsa Biya community of the higher Putumayo, the cold region of the Colombian Amazon.
In the year 2009, being ordained as a Taita by the elder Taita Guillermo Mavisoy Mutumbajoy, he started his career as a Traditional Doctor of Sacred Plants and serving medicine for over eight years in various cities of his homeland, Colombia. Currently, he resides in the United States and holds Ayahuasca-Yage ceremonies in various states, such as Florida, California, Texas, New Hampshire, and New York.

Monica Vasquez
Monica Vasquez was born in Miami, FL, to Colombian parents. She completed high school in Bogotá, Colombia, and moved to Miami, FL, later graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Miami.
She began her path with sacred plant medicines, Ayahuasca-yage, among others, first as a participant, then as an organizer and translator in ceremonies, with Cofan Taita Nelson Diaz Queta. Currently, she works as an organizer and translator in ceremonies with Kamentsa Biya and Inga Taita Hector Ortiz, in Miami and Tampa, Fl.
Giampiero Scattolon
Giampiero M. Scattolon was Born in Lima, Peru, and grew up in Los Angeles, CA. Currently, he lives in Merrimack, NH.
After being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) he worked closely together with a team of mental health professionals at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare System in Long Beach, CA. His life became a bit more manageable despite the diagnosis. And yet he felt that there was a key component missing in his life.
After much research and contemplation, he felt the call to participate in his first Ayahuasca Ceremony in January 2019.
He considers his first Ayahuasca experience one of his top life-changing experiences, being a close second place next to his being present at the birth of his first child.
In early 2021 while working in a supporting role at an Ayahuasca Center in Southern New Hampshire, he decided to become a student of Ayahuasca, and quickly he understood that this would be futile without a teacher. And soon after that, he was introduced to Taita Hector Alirio Ortiz Jimenez from Colombia.
Giampiero is now a disciple of Taita Hector and seeks to continue learning about Ayahuasca – Yage and about the cultures that have used this peculiar Sacrament for millennia to connect with that which is considered sacred.
Reviews
I found myself immersed in a transformative journey at Kametsa Inga Church that transcended everything I’d experienced before. From the very first moment, the retreat’s intimate atmosphere—steeped in indigenous wisdom and echoing with centuries of healing tradition—invited me to shed layers of old pain. One evening, under a sky lit by a gentle glow, the ceremony opened a floodgate of deep emotions, and I felt as though the healing spirit of the land was guiding every tear and laugh. There was an authenticity in every ritual, an unspoken promise that what you offer your heart will be returned as clarity and renewed strength. In those intimate integration circles, we shared our vulnerabilities and dreams, building a community that felt like a true spiritual family. I left Kametsa Inga Church with a lighter heart, enriched by an inner peace that continues to guide my daily life.
My journey at Kametsa Inga Church was marked by moments of extraordinary insight alongside periods of uncertainty. The retreat promises an encounter with ancient healing traditions and, in many ways, it delivered: the ceremonies were potent, eliciting vivid, sometimes overwhelming emotional revelations that opened up a part of me I hadn’t dared explore. However, I found the overall structure to be inconsistent. While some integration sessions fostered meaningful dialogue and genuine support, others felt rushed and impersonal, leaving me to grapple with intense emotions on my own. Additionally, practical aspects—like the clarity of scheduling and the upkeep of communal spaces—sometimes detracted from the experience. I left with valuable lessons, but also with a sense that the journey was fragmented, and the follow-through didn’t always meet the promise of the deep healing I sought. For those who are self-reliant and can supplement their own processing, there may be treasures to uncover here—but the experience wasn’t wholly cohesive for me.
Kametsa Inga Church delivered a series of intensely moving ceremonies that opened up parts of my inner world in ways I never anticipated. The environment is both rugged and nurturing—steeped in the traditions of indigenous healing, it provided a backdrop that was as challenging as it was inspiring. I experienced sessions that unlocked deep emotional pain and sparked brilliant insights about my path forward. However, while the core rituals were undeniably potent, I sometimes found the integration process a bit disjointed. There were moments when the group discussions felt too generalized, and I wished for more tailored support to fully process the intensity of the revelations. Despite these rough edges, the transformative nature of the ceremonies left a lasting impact on me. If you’re ready for a raw, heartfelt journey, this retreat offers profound healing, though it might benefit from a more refined follow-up process.
Experiencing Kametsa Inga Church was like opening a door to a long-forgotten part of myself. The retreat’s rituals are deeply rooted in indigenous tradition, and every ceremony felt like an invitation to confront the truth behind my emotional scars. The raw power of the medicine was both exhilarating and daunting; I found myself riding waves of intense emotion, at times feeling completely untethered in the midst of revelation. The facilitators clearly possess a deep understanding of these practices, yet there were occasions when the organizational flow seemed off—some integration sessions were hurried, and transitions between rituals felt somewhat unstructured. Despite these imperfections, the transformative insights I gained were undeniable, leaving me with both a newfound sense of self and lingering questions about how to integrate such intense experiences more seamlessly into everyday life.
My time at Kametsa Inga Church was a revelation—a sacred journey that brought me face-to-face with parts of myself I had long buried. The retreat’s setting exudes a raw, timeless energy; every ritual felt like a bridge connecting me to an ancient past and a hopeful future. During one particularly moving ceremony, I experienced a profound moment of clarity that shattered old barriers and ignited a passion for life I hadn’t felt in years. The facilitators welcomed us with genuine warmth, sharing insights without pretense and allowing the medicine to guide our souls organically. The integration sessions, rich in heartfelt conversation, offered an environment where every whisper of vulnerability was met with compassion. I now carry with me a deep sense of renewal and a commitment to living more authentically—an experience I can only describe as life-altering.
