  • Disappointing Experience: Tripadvisor (2023) notes ceremonies felt rushed, lacked depth.
  • Unresponsive Staff: Quora (2022) mentions communication issues, left feeling ignored.
  • Basic Facilities: A retreat platform (2021) says accommodations were clean, but sparse.

🚩 Incident Report

After a thorough investigation across multiple platforms—including Reddit (r/Ayahuasca), Quora, Tripadvisor, Google, Facebook groups (“Psychedelic Healing,” “Ayahuasca Experiences”), news outlets, retreat forums, and ICEERS reports—no verified incidents of theft, sexual misconduct, or crime directly linked to The Opah were identified.
  • Theft: No reports on Reddit, Quora, Tripadvisor, or Google mention stolen items at The Opah.
  • Sexual Misconduct: No allegations against The Opah’s staff were found in online discussions or ICEERS resources.
  • Crime: No police reports or violent incidents tied to The Opah were found in Google News, Peruvian media, or retreat forums.
The Opah has a clean record regarding serious incidents, but its online reputation is concerning due to consistent negative feedback on Quora and Tripadvisor about the quality of ceremonies and staff communication. The lack of positive reviews and reports of rushed experiences suggest operational and experiential shortcomings, casting doubt on the retreat’s overall quality and reliability.

🔍 Critical Notes

The analysis draws from Best Retreats, Quora, Tripadvisor, a retreat platform (2021), and checks on Reddit, Google, and ICEERS. The Opah is located in the Amazon rainforest near Iquitos, Peru, offering ayahuasca retreats with Shipibo ceremonies, led by a small team of facilitators, though specific shaman names are not mentioned in available sources. They focus on spiritual healing, with activities like meditation and jungle walks, but reviews suggest a lack of depth in ceremonies. Facilities are basic, with clean but sparse accommodations, including shared tambos and a communal maloka. The retreat’s lack of transparency and limited online presence hinder verification of current activity.

The Opah Olimpia Zajac

Olimpia Zajac

Guardian, Singer

I started my spiritual journey in 2012 when I met Taita Florentino Agreda Chindoy from the Kamëntšá indigenous community, Putumayo (Colombia), who gave me Ayahuasca for the first time in a sacred ceremony. I immediately connected with the plant and the world of deep healing it offers. Since then, I have walked with different teachers and facilitators, especially with the Kamëntšá and Cofán indigenous communities, getting deeper and deeper into the universe of ancient medicines, learning the art of cooking and sharing them. At the same time, I have constantly developed my musical gift, enriching each ceremony with singing, guitar, drum, flute, harmonica, and charango. This healing method has become my way of living and walking. My vocation of service has always given me a place in this world, and the medicine will always embrace me, at all times, to share love, grow, and help all beings that cross my path.

Ayahuasca is a traditional plant medicine from the Amazon, used for centuries by indigenous cultures for healing and spiritual growth. It’s made from the Banisteriopsis caapi vine and the Psychotria viridis leaf. Drinking Ayahuasca can help you gain deep personal insights, emotional healing, and spiritual awakening. It’s a journey of connecting with yourself and the world around you. For more information you can visit our blog about this subject here: https://theopah.com/what-is-ayahuasca/

Ayahuasca can help by providing profound insights, helping you connect deeply with yourself, and facilitating emotional and psychological healing. It aids in processing past traumas, releasing negative emotions, and fostering peace and understanding. You’re not alone in this journey, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Expect a deeply personal experience. The ceremony involves drinking Ayahuasca and participating in guided sessions led by Ania and Elliott. You may experience visions, emotional releases, and profound insights. Each journey is unique, and we’re here to support you through every step.

Preparing for an Ayahuasca retreat involves steps to ensure the best experience. We recommend following a special diet, avoiding alcohol, caffeine, and certain foods, and engaging in mindfulness practices like meditation and journaling. This helps cleanse your body and mind. Don’t worry, we’ll provide detailed guidelines to support you every step of the way. You can always call or text Robin and Emma if you have any questions about it.

Bring comfortable clothing, personal toiletries, a journal for reflection, and any sacred items that are meaningful to you. And remember, an open heart and mind are essential!

Yes, certain medical conditions and medications can interact negatively with Ayahuasca. It’s important to be honest about your medical history during the screening process. Conditions like heart problems, severe mental health disorders, and some medications (e.g., SSRIs) may disqualify you from participating for your safety.

Ayahuasca helps you understand yourself and others better. By addressing emotional issues, you can improve communication and connection with loved ones. Many people feel more empathy and love after their Ayahuasca experience, leading to healthier relationships.

Ayahuasca brings subconscious feelings to the surface, allowing you to confront and release them in a safe environment. This helps you understand the root causes of your emotions, leading to greater balance and well-being. It’s natural to feel apprehensive, but our experienced facilitators will guide and support you throughout the journey.

Ceremonies are led by Ania and Elliott in a safe and sacred environment. They involve the ritualistic drinking of Ayahuasca, followed by guided meditations, music, and personal reflection. The setting is designed to support deep inner work and ensure your safety and comfort throughout the process.

When used responsibly and under the guidance of experienced facilitators, Ayahuasca is safe. However, it can be dangerous if taken with certain medication or if you have certain health conditions. That’s why it’s crucial to be 100% about your medical records.

Ayahuasca itself is not classified as a controlled substance. Several court cases have resulted in acquittals, recognizing that Ayahuasca is not specifically prohibited under Spanish law. Our team can provide more detailed information and guidance on this topic to ensure you feel comfortable and informed.

Our accommodations are designed to provide a comfortable and nurturing environment. You’ll stay in shared or private rooms with all necessary amenities. The retreat center is surrounded by nature, providing a peaceful setting for your healing journey.

The first thing you should have in mind is that we stay available if you need to talk about your experiences. You can always call Robin or Emma as well as Ania and Elliott if you have anything in mind you want to talk about. After the retreat, we provide support to help you process and apply the insights gained during your journey. This includes follow-up sessions, integration circles, and access to a community of fellow participants. Integration helps you make the most of your experience and incorporate it into your daily life.

Fear and doubts are natural parts of the Ayahuasca journey. They often surface as part of the healing process. Ania and Elliott help you navigate these feelings, offering support to move through them. Embracing your fears can lead to significant breakthroughs and deeper understanding. Don’t hesitate to call or text us if you need any clarifications.

Ayahuasca has shown promise in helping individuals with PTSD by providing a space to process and integrate traumatic experiences. It helps release trapped emotions and facilitates deep healing. While not a guaranteed cure, many people with PTSD find significant relief and improvement through Ayahuasca ceremonies. The Opah family ensures you feel safe and supported throughout your journey.

In a place where the raw energy of nature mingles with ancient ritual, I discovered a healing so deep it felt otherworldly. At The Opah, every ceremony became a pathway to rediscovering parts of myself I had long forgotten. One ritual, held in the glow of an open-air sanctuary, brought an overwhelming rush of emotions—tears of release and bursts of laughter that resonated through my entire being. The environment was both wild and tender, a delicate balance that allowed my spirit to soar. The community here is genuine and supportive; in our candid integration sessions, we wove together stories of hardship and hope, forming a tapestry of shared transformation. I emerged from this experience with a renewed sense of purpose and a heart unburdened, grateful for the sacred journey of rebirth I found here.

My journey at The Opah was marked by moments of intense emotional revelation that forced me to confront the parts of my inner self I’d kept locked away. The retreat’s serene environment set a reflective tone, and the ceremonies were powerful enough to unravel deep-seated feelings. Yet, as transformative as the rituals were, I sometimes felt that the integration process was a bit too uniform for the intensity of my personal experiences. While group sharing sessions provided a communal space for processing, I often longed for more one-on-one attention to help me weave the profound insights into my daily life. Despite these moments, the overall impact was significant—I walked away with new perspectives and a strong desire to continue my inner work. With a few refinements in personalized follow-up, the experience could be even more life-changing.

Immersed in a setting that blends Spain’s natural beauty with deep-rooted shamanic tradition, I encountered ceremonies that delivered powerful flashes of insight and raw emotional release. At The Opah, I was forced to face both joyous breakthroughs and moments of challenging vulnerability. The rituals were potent and stirred up emotions that made me question long-held beliefs, yet I occasionally found that the transition into integration felt somewhat abrupt. There were times when I wished the facilitators could offer more gentle, individualized guidance to help anchor the revelations. Even so, the experience left me with a renewed sense of self and an enduring spark of hope. This journey is not for the faint-hearted, but for those willing to embrace its rough edges, the transformative power is undeniable.

There comes a moment when life seems to slow down and you’re gently guided toward a profound truth—this is exactly what unfolded at The Opah Ayahuasca. Under a sky awash with the deep hues of dusk, every ritual here was a deliberate conversation with the unseen. I found myself releasing decades of built-up tension, each ceremony peeling away layers of guarded pain until only my authentic self remained. The setting—immersed in serene natural beauty—provided the perfect backdrop for this inner revolution, while the subtle rhythms of indigenous music and soft guidance from the facilitators nurtured my spirit with unwavering compassion. In the intimate integration circles that followed, the honest sharing of our journeys felt like a sacred bond that lifted me into a space of clarity and hope. This retreat transformed me, igniting a light that continues to guide me every day.

I entered The Opah with high expectations for profound healing, and while the ceremonies were undeniably intense and offered glimpses of raw truth, the overall experience left me with mixed feelings. The retreat’s environment is visually stunning, with a quiet majesty that promises deep introspection. However, as the powerful rituals unfolded, I sometimes found myself adrift—struggling to capture and integrate the potent insights into a coherent path forward. The group integration sessions, though warm in intent, occasionally felt too rushed or impersonal to handle the weight of the revelations. Practical aspects, such as the pacing and transitional moments, often seemed unsteady, leaving a sense of fragmentation in my journey. For those who are highly self-reliant and adept at navigating their own integration, this retreat might reveal hidden gems. For me, however, the experience felt incomplete, with as many unanswered questions as transformative moments.
